The State Audit Office of Viet Nam and National Audit Department of Malaysia strengthened mutual cooperation

On July 11, at the headquarters of the National Audit Department of Malaysia (NAD) in Putrajaya, the administrative capital of Malaysia, Auditor General Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi received the delegation of the State Audit Office of Viet Nam (SAV) led by Deputy Auditor General Dang The Vinh.

At the meeting, on behalf of SAV's Delegation, Deputy Auditor General Dang The Vinh highly appreciated NAD's expertise, as well as the effective cooperation activities between the two agencies in recent years through many activities such as exchange of working visits at all levels and sharing of documents. He expressed his wish to further promote bilateral cooperation between two SAIs in the coming time.

Mr. Dang The Vinh also conveyed his gratitude to NAD for coordinating and supporting SAV in multilateral community such as the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), the Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions in Asia (ASOSAI) and the Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions in Southeast Asia (ASEANSAI), especially in the event of SAV’s hosting the 14th ASOSAI Assembly and its Chairmanship of ASOSAI for the 2018-2021 term.

In her response, Ms. Suraya congratulated Viet Nam on its achievements in the economic field, successfully controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, reopening the economy and social activities in the new normal, achieving many positive results in socio-economic recovery and development. She affirmed that NAD is willing and prepared to discuss the areas in which NAD auditors have extensive experience such as performance audit, training, and information technology audit with SAV colleagues.

During the working visit to Malaysia from July 9-12, 2023, SAV Delegation discussed and shared experiences on Applying information technology in auditing activities; Experience in data digitization and connection to national databases and/or central authorities.

Under the bilateral framework, SAV and NAD have implemented a number of cooperation activities such as exchange of working visits at all levels; sharing documents and information on the activities of the two agencies; sending staff to attend training courses on performance auditing and information technology within the framework of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program sponsored by Malaysian Government. Particularly in 2021, NAD has provided technical support to the audit team on water management in the Mekong River basin in association with the sustainable development goals between the auditors of Viet Nam, Myanmar and Thailand as well as provided training on water resource management issues and expertise opinions on key audit documents.

Under the multilateral framework, the two Agencies have always supported and closely coordinated on the ASOSAI and ASEANSAI forums. NAD, as Chairman of ASOSAI for the 2015-2018 term, supported SAV to run for and successfully perform the role of ASOSAI Chairman for the 2018-2021 term as well as gave assistance to SAV in successfully hosting the virtual 15th ASOSAI Assembly in 2021 by adopting a wealth of important agenda items of the organization.
 
SAV and NAD are two among the four founding member SAIs of ASEANSAI that have effectively coordinated in encouraging member SAIs to support and realize the idea of establishing ASEANSAI as a forum to promote good governance in Southeast Asia region.
