(sav.gov.vn) - During the official visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic, on the afternoon of October 17 in Vientiane, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Vice President and former National Assembly President Pany Yathotou, as well as former Prime Minister and former National Assembly President Thongsing Thammavong.
During the meeting with Vice President and former National Assembly President Pany Yathotou, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his joy at reuniting with a dear friend of the Party, State, and people of Viet Nam. He respectfully conveyed warm greetings and best wishes for good health from General Secretary and President To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and other leaders and former leaders of the Vietnamese National Assembly.
Chairman Tran Thanh Man noted that this was his first official visit to Laos in the new position. He congratulated the Party, State, and people of Laos on their achievements in implementing the resolution of the 11th Party Congress and the 9th 5-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021-2025), expressing confidence that under the wise leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the 12th National Congress of the Party, scheduled for early 2026, would successfully accomplish its set objectives.
Vice President and former National Assembly President Pany Yathotou warmly welcomed Chairman Tran Thanh Man to pay an official visit to Laos and participate in the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-45). She expressed her belief that this visit would further strengthen the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries and enhance the good cooperation between their legislative bodies.
In a cordial and friendly atmosphere, the two leaders agreed that the cooperative relationship between the National Assemblies of both countries is continuously being cemented and developed. Both sides are actively coordinating to implement the cooperation agreement signed between the two National Assemblies in May 2022, and regular visit exchanges of high-level delegations and National Assembly agencies have been maintained. Notably, both sides have also conducted joint oversight of strategic economic cooperation projects, emphasizing the supreme oversight responsibility of the National Assembly in each country.
Regarding the book "50 Years of relationship between the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic - Comprehensive cooperation and development", Chairman Tran Thanh Man informed that both sides have been actively collaborating on the research and compilation of the book. This holds significant meaning in summarizing the development process, achievements, and lessons learned to enhance the effectiveness of cooperation between the two National Assemblies in the new phase.
Man also expressed gratitude for the sincere and profound support that the Party, State, and people of Laos have extended to Viet Nam, especially recently, when Laos asissted Viet Nam in addressing the aftermath of Typhoon No. 3 (Typhoon Yagi).
Vice President Pany Yathotou expressed confidence that under the wise leadership of the Party and State of Viet Nam, along with the solidarity and cooperation of all strata of the people, the communities most affected by natural disasters will soon overcome difficulties and restabilize their lives.
Pany Yathotou praised the results of the talks between Chairman Tran Thanh Man and President Saysomphone Phomvihane, congratulating Viet Nam on its socio-economic achievements in the first nine months of 2024. She hoped that Viet Nam would share more experience related to the achievement-making process with Laos.
During the meeting with former Prime Minister and former National Assembly Chairman Thongsing Thammavong, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man congratulated Laos on its attainments, acknowledging the contributions of Thongsing Thammavong, especially to implementing the resolution of the 11th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the 9th 5-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021-2025).
Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized the highest priority given to developing the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and Laos, reaffirming Viet Nam's strong exhaustive support for Laos in its renewal, protection, and construction efforts.
Chairman Tran Thanh Man also advised Thongsing Thammavong of the positive outcomes of his talks with the President of the Lao National Assembly. Both sides assessed the implementation of the cooperation agreements signed between the two National Assemblies.
He expressed hope that, with his prestige and extensive experience, former Prime Minister and former National Assembly President Thongsing Thammavong would continue to support and contribute ideas to further consolidating and deepening the cooperative relationship between the two countries, including communicating with the younger generation about the special relationship between Viet Nam and Laos.
Thongsing Thammavong welcomed Chairman Tran Thanh Man on his first visit to Laos following his successful election as Chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam. He congratulated the Party and State of Viet Nam on the endeavors to lead the Vietnamese people to defend and develop the country, especially praising the National Assembly for developing high-quality laws that contribute enormously to the national socio-economic development course and the effective resource utilisation.
On this occasion, former Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong sent greetings and best wishes for health to General Secretary and President To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and other leaders of the Party and State of Viet Nam.
During the meeting, Man and Thongsing Thammavong praised the good cooperative relationship between the two National Assemblies. Both sides regularly exchange delegations at all various levels, of committees, friendship groups, and young parliamentarians, etc.
Thongsing Thammavong expressed a desire for the two National Assemblies to continue exchanging experiences in law-making and coordinating oversight over the implementation of the signed bilateral cooperation agreements.
