Opening of the 14th UNCTAD Debt Management Conference

(sav.gov.vn) – On March 17, the 14th session of UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) International Debt Management Conference officially commenced in Geneva, Switzerland. The event gathered representatives from the World Trade Organization (WTO), other international economic organizations based in Geneva, and senior national debt managers from over 100 countries worldwide.

As previously reported, a delegation from the State Audit Office of Viet Nam (SAV), led by Deputy Auditor General Doan Anh Tho, is attending the conference.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of UNCTAD, emphasized debt that should be propelling countries’development are forcing them to default on it. The 14th UNCTAD Debt Management Conference will explore solutions to debt management challenges through innovative and forward-thinking approaches.

 


Under the theme “Innovative and resilient debt management: Managing risks and navigating crises”, the conference comprises nine sessions, focusing on key topics: Searching for solutions: breaking out of the debt morass; Liquidity and solvency: debates around debt sustainability and development; Legal tools: concensus building and rule making in a fragmented debt landscape; Governance, accountability, and transparency in a world of fiscal constraints; Debt-climate nexus: innovative debt instruments to manage fiscal risks; Elevating debt transparency: rethinking reporting and ensuring quality standards; Strategies for managing institutional challenges for a sustainable debt management office; Making connection: Public debt and the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) challenges; New requirements for debt management systems: How are they measuring up?.

According to the agenda, the SAV delegation will participate in all discussion sessions during the conference, which runs from March 17 to 19.

As part of the working visit, Deputy Auditor General Doan Anh Tho also held courtesy meetings with Ms. Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of UNCTAD, and Mr. Pedro Manuel Moreno, Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD.
